Four Great Cycling Tours in Europe

Cycling holidays have to be one of the best ways to experience Europe. The freedom you get cycling around the European countryside gives you a unique perspective on the country you’re visiting, allowing you to experience the local culture and history across a whole region. This article takes a look at selection of tours in different European countries, to give you an idea of what’s on offer Costa Blanca Bike Hire.

France

France has to be on of the best destinations to visit if you’re looking for variety. Cycling holidays in France are a great way to get up close with the local culture. One of the most popular routes starts in the St. Emilion vineyards close to Bordeaux and runs for 170 miles to the medieval community of Cahors. The route takes you through the heart of France, winding its way along the banks of the Dordogne River, through towns such as Bergerac and a number of medieval villages, before finishing up in the Vers Valley and beautiful Lot wine country.

Germany

Our next cycling holiday is in the stunning German countryside. Slightly longer than the French tour, at 180 miles, this German adventure explores the impressive area around the Bavarian Lakes. The ride starts at Munich, setting off through the nearby sheltered valleys and picturesque Bavarian communities. It winds its way along the Loisach River and up into a valley between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges, before finally reaching the historic outpost of Bad Tolz and Lake Tegeemsee. This fantastic trip gives a great insight into traditional Germany.

Great Britain

Slightly shorter than the first two, only 140 miles in length, but just as popular, is the impressive coast-to-coast route in the north of England. The route starts in Whitehaven on the Cumbrian coast and runs to the sandy coast at Wearside. The length between the two is a mixture of old railway tracks, quiet country roads and stunning hill country, with popular stops along the way including Keswick, Penrith and Alston.

Spain

Our final cycling holiday is a much longer tour, covering 480 miles of Spanish countryside. The route is often traversed in just five days, but you can obviously take longer if you’re not quite that athletic. The trail is based on an old pilgrimage path, between St. Jean Pied, in the French Pyrenees, and Santiago de Compostela; though there is the option of a shorter trip from Leon. Overall it’s a great way to take in this part of the world.
